3 Absolute Musts for Social Media Success
by Nicole Conklin
Like all things, there are techniques that will help you achieve social media success. We usually call them the “tricks of the trade.” They’re also not usually things that we find in a book, for example, “post at 3 pm on Sundays!” We usually find these tricks through experience or through someone who is experienced. Tricks of the social media marketing trade boil down to 3 “musts.”
1) Be dynamic – While people have favorite colors, everyone loves a rainbow. We all have our favorite way of taking in information, but we enjoy all ways at least a little. This is why your social media needs to include many types of posts: infographics, funny pictures, personal success, videos, GIFs, links to blogs, music, music videos, plain text, contests, questions, etc. Too many pages choose only to post photos, and this is OK, but taking the time to write a blog or do a quick video blog to give your page a variety of posts makes for a much more interesting page and image. People with dynamic personalities are much more popular than the monotone person who does the same thing every day. The same thing goes for the internet; we want dimensions.
2) Be real – People will know when you’re pulling what we in the biz call “faking it till you’re making it.” This happens when the genuine voice of a business gets lost behind the voice they think they need to be in order to attract clients. What attracts clients is when they feel something when they think of you or your brand. Be it great memories, fondness for them, jealousy, heartache… the list goes on. Making me feel like I’m following a company who is trying to sell me something is not included in that list, though. Be a real person, preferably, be you.
3) Be Unique – In a sea of everyone trying to get clients on social media, you need to stand out. Do this by being brand so unique – so YOU – that you’re not just like the others. Stand out from the crowd so when someone thinks about your industry, your name comes up first as the name they can relate to, are close with, and they can trust.
Talk to your marketing team about ways you can use these simple – and seemingly obvious – tools to give your business the advantage it deserves.
