10 Amazing Reasons Why You Will LOVE Google+ Photos

by Barbra Wolfe

google photo logoI’ve had my Samsung Note II for about four years, and I’ve seen this colorful pinwheel icon on my phone many times. I knew it had something to do with pictures, but I had never checked it out… UNTIL NOW! Someone recently pointed it out to me and OMG what cool features! All I had to do was sync my phone to my Google+ account to get Google Photos.

GOOGLE PHOTOS

1. It automatically saves your photos to your Google+ page.

So what’s the big deal about that, I thought. Right now my pictures are saved to the Verizon cloud. But, to be honest, I don’t know how to get there to access them. I think it might be for phone back-up only. There are other Cloud based services like DropBox and One Drive, and there are dozens of online photo album companies. Any which way you go, it’s best to save your photos to a cloud of some sort, and I think Google+ Photos is the best out there because it’s automatic and:

2. It will automatically create a short animated video clip of photos that have been taken consecutively quickly.

3. It will automatically make a story video syncing your photos, the date and time of your photos, Facebook check-ins, and Google maps. This totally rocks!

4. It randomly creates collages that you can save to your library.

5. The Search feature is incredible!

You can search by subject (or year – for camera photos only). Check out my search for Beaches! I did not label these photos. Google somehow recognizes sand and thinks it’s a beach. Out of the eight images below, it was correct seven times. The March photos are from San Diego, the 2013 pictures are from Hawaii, but the picture from Nov. 19, 2014, is a shot of a sandy construction site in Las Vegas. Pretty amazing, huh?

But Wait! That’s not all!

Holy Moly! It’s got Facial Recognition!

When you click on Search, you’ll get a screen with pre-populated categories of people, things, places, and types (Creations, Videos, Google Drive and Recently added).
If you click on any one of those faces, you will get ALL the pictures of that person. (And here you thought facial recognition software was just for government agencies and TV shows.)

6. You can upload photos from your computer, so all your photos are in one place – photos from cameras, photos that other people have sent to you, photos you’ve been tagged in on Facebook, etc. (Use the cloud upload button). There’s also a Daily upload you can do from your PC with Google Photos Backup. You can choose where you want to back up (to which google+ account), and you can choose which files to back up.

7. You can create and organize your albums here just like you would on your computer. (Use the + sign to start a new album.) As a matter of fact, you will free up some memory on your computer, when you upload all your pictures to Google+ Photos.

8. You can share to Google+, Facebook, and Twitter.

9. It helps your memory!

Just click on the   google photo information icon   and now you can see this was taken on 9/16 at 1:05 pm

10. But, by far the most valuable feature is the ability to send multiple photos in a link communication. This is huge for two reasons: Photo quality and ease of use.

a. Photo Quality remains intact. Normally when you want to share a photo from the photo gallery on your phone, you’ll send it as original, large (70%), medium (30%) or small (10%). If you’re emailing multiple pictures via email, you most likely will have to choose medium. The recipient of that photo will now see a photo that has been degraded a bit.
But with Google+ Photos, you can send a link for multiple photos and your recipient gets the original crisp photos in an email that is not going to break his in-box.

b. One alternative to this would be a DropBox shared folder. This is great if you have ongoing sharing for a specific project. But, in general, not everyone has a Drop Box account. You have to make a shared folder and invite the other person to the shared folder before you can share anything. Google+ removes the hassle. One link does it all.
