From Permission to Prosperity: Unleashing the Entrepreneurial Spirit in Women

August 3, 2024 By //  by Tammy Dill

Hey there fellow Boss Ladies! Ever wondered what it takes to kickstart your journey as a successful woman entrepreneur? Well, before diving into the complexities of financing or brainstorming the perfect business name, there’s one crucial element we need more than anything else: permission. Yup, you heard it right – permission from ourselves to boldly step into the realm of our own futures. It’s about embracing a mindset that sets aside doubts and fear, and instead, opens doors to new experiences and opportunities.

As Cait Scudder, the powerhouse behind seven-figure business coaching and TEDx talks, rightly puts it, “Women need to stop waiting for permission or validation to take that first step towards their goals.” Mindset is key, ladies. It’s the driving force that either propels us forward or holds us back, whether we’re aiming for that initial six-figure milestone or striving to scale our existing businesses.

Now, once we’ve given ourselves the green light, here are three invaluable resources that can supercharge our journey as women entrepreneurs:

  1. Access to Funding: Let’s talk money, honey! Federal and state governments dish out millions of dollars in grants every year, and guess what? A good chunk of these grants is earmarked specifically for us, fabulous women entrepreneurs. From Women’s Business Centers under the Small Business Administration to platforms like GrantsforWomen.org, there’s a plethora of funding opportunities waiting to be tapped into. And hey, private funding sources are equally eager to support us. According to Stephen Halasnik, co-founder of Financing Solutions, women-owned businesses often boast better credit performance, making them attractive candidates for investment.
  2. Procurement Opportunities: Did you know that the federal government reserves a substantial portion of its purchases for small businesses like ours? Yep, it’s true! And there are special categories like Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) and Economically Disadvantaged Woman-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) that give us a competitive edge. Plus, states, municipalities, and even large corporations with government-funded projects offer similar set-asides, so let’s not overlook these lucrative avenues.
  3. Mentorship and Role Models: One of the greatest assets we have as women entrepreneurs is the abundance of role models and mentors willing to share their wisdom. Whether it’s through mentorship programs, online resources, or networking platforms like Facebook groups and business associations, there’s no shortage of inspiration and guidance available. As Janet Zaretsky rightly points out, today’s young women have a wealth of role models to look up to, empowering them to push boundaries and strive for greatness.
  4. Embracing Failure as Feedback: Here’s a truth bomb, ladies: failure is not the end; it’s simply feedback. Every setback is an opportunity to learn, grow, and come back even stronger. So, let’s adopt a resilient mindset, stay focused on the bigger picture, and keep pushing forward. Remember, it’s not about the obstacles we face along the way; it’s about the journey and the lessons we learn along the path to success.

So, fellow Boss Ladies, let’s give ourselves the permission to dream big, chase our goals relentlessly, and support each other every step of the way. Together, there’s nothing we can’t achieve!
