SMALL BUSINESSES & EMERGING DOG-FRIENDLY PATIO MARKET

October 9, 2016 By //  by Carol Ann Dechan

HOW SMALL BUSINESSES CAN WIN
THE EMERGING DOG-FRIENDLY PATIO MARKET

by Carol Ann Dechan

For centuries, dogs have been welcome in the even the poshest restaurants in Paris. And, we have all seen the exaggerated versions of this depicted in cartoons, movies, and TV shows. As a kid growing up in New Jersey, I didn’t quite believe this was real. (In retrospect, I now know that it is.)

Well, it took awhile for the trend to cross the Atlantic, but today, you can see dogs in some of the hippest restaurant patios in cities across the US. What’s happening is that as Americans flock to urban areas, businesses are making it easier for our dogs to integrate into our fast-paced and social lifestyles. Some even offer doggie menus.

It makes sense that many of the most dog-friendly cities are located in the West because of our sunny weather and active lifestyles. Las Vegas and San Diego are two of the cities that consistently rank in the Top Ten for dog friendliness. On my side of town, my favorite dog-friendly restaurants are Lazy Dogs in Downtown Summerlin, Leone’s at Tivoli Village, and the Mt. Charleston Lodge Restaurant. A quick Google inquiry will show you many, many, more.

What does this mean to small businesses? No longer are dogs only seen during walks, playing in doggie parks, or prancing around at the beauty parlor. Because dogs are welcome at tons of restaurants all over the Las Vegas Valley, they are being seen by more and more potential customers – your potential customers.

Promotional products catering to man’s best friend not only endear you to their owners but those dogs now become walking billboards.

Fact: 88% of people remember the advertiser on a promotional product.

The dog-friendly patio niche is growing and it’s an emerging market that the wise small business owner should take advantage of soon.
