10 STEPS TO CHANGING YOUR BODY IN 30 DAYS

by Anabel Quintanilla

Belly and measuring tape for weight loss management

As a Transformational Coach, I get to work with many frustrated women who come to me after trying an array of diets in an effort to lose weight. They tell me all about their “goal” and how nothing they’ve tried ever works the way they want it to.

When a goal is legitimate there are action steps in place to help you reach it. Your Why is strong. You are truly committed. The plan is detailed and thorough. You have established conditions to help you reach success. You have an accountability partner. You focus on the positive rather than the negative.

However, most of the time what I hear is:

I need to lose weight so I’m cutting out soda, junk food, and carbs.

I’m on a diet so I can’t eat that.

I need to burn off the {insert food name here} that I ate.

Does any of this sound familiar?

With nothing more than these punishing statements fueling you, you aren’t going to get very far. You might be successful in losing weight, but you aren’t going to be able to keep it off for long or forever.

A better approach to weight loss management

Instead of wasting your energy on restriction, try outlining a plan by answering the following questions: What do I want my body to feel like in 30 days?

  1. What do I want my body to feel like in 30 days?
  2. What do I want my body to look like in 30 days?
  3. What is important about feeling and looking this way?
  4. What will I be able to do when I feel and look this way?
  5. How much exercise per week will I commit to and for how long?
  6. How many well-balanced meals will I enjoy each week? (Determine the servings of fruits & vegetables, lean protein, non-starchy carbs, and good fats that each meal will include as all these are necessary to ensure a full-range of nutrients.)
  7. How many “fun” meals will I enjoy each week? (Don’t use the word “cheat” to describe your food – ever!)
  8. What can I do to make sure I stay on target with my foods and my exercise plan?
  9. Who can I enlist for support when things get tough and I want to give up?
  10. How will I celebrate when I achieve the feeling and the look that I want in 30 days?

Notice how specific the questions above are and how none of them are actually related to a specific number. Weight can be very deceiving. The number on a scale will depend greatly on what you’ve eaten, the time of the month, the weather, how your muscles are responding to exercise – making it very discouraging for a woman who only wants to “lose weight”.

Instead, focus on gaining energy, feeling lighter and enjoying looser-fitting clothing. This is a great start and one that your body will appreciate and be able to stick with!
