Why Hire An Interior Designer?

Decorating a home is truly a complex job.

Ask a designer’s clients why they hired a designer and you will frequently hear, “I know what I want and I have ideas of my own, but I need help in pulling it all together.”

Visualizing is Difficult

Once an entire room is painted, the paint chip it all started with can seem as reliable a color guide as a chameleon.  Scale, the effects of color, pattern, texture or lighting-all of this can be deceiving. The result of not enlisting help of a trained eye can be a mistake that’s costly-both financially and emotionally.

What’s New, What’s Good

Part of the designer’s responsibility is to protect the client’s investment in furnishings.  For instance a designer know which manufacturers are know for good quality, and which treatments will hold up best on sun-filled windows.

Save Time, Save Confusion

Time is another reason to use a designer because furnishing a home – or even a room- is time consuming.  Independent designers have a thorough knowledge of the market place and can save you hours, days or even weeks, and confusion as well.  And, a designer has the know how to create precisely the room the client has “in her head.”

Looking for Individuality

A designer has access to a broader choice of furnishings than does the average person.  In addition to established professional sources that are not available to the public, an experienced designer has dozens of his or her own, including out of the way antique shops, auction rooms, little known artists and specialty shops.

Designers Have Clout

Although you may have competent sources for workrooms and contractors who can make draperies, cabinets and other items, you as an individual may offer little repeat business.  In contrast, an experienced designer represents continual business-and that adds up to clout.  Also, if a problem arises, it is the designer’s responsibility to correct it-not yours.

It’s Still Your Project

If you have the feeling that you won’t be doing your home yourself, rest assured that this is not true.  Working closely with a designer can ensure that your will indeed be creating the home you see in your mind’s eye.
